The Challenge
Sista Circle: Black Women in Tech (SCBWIT) needed a design partner to help them build a website for their growing 12K members. This was an opportunity to tell the rest of the world about their existence so that new visitors might learn more about the group, join the community or even partner with them.
Problem and Solution
Lexi, founder of SCBWIT, needed a way to attract new members to join their Facebook group as well as other social media channels.

Erin, The Entry-Level Software Engineer
Erin decided to enroll in a bootcamp to change her career from an administrative assistant to a software engineer in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. While learning the curriculum, she wants to immerse herself in the field so that she can connect with like-minded professionals and get access to resources.

Needs community, support & guidance
Seeking job opportunities
The visual direction can be summed up into two words:
Unapologetically Black.

I worked alongside SCBWIT’s Creative Director, Isa Cepedas, as she was actively involved in overseeing the visual direction of the website. She was inspired by the colors of African textile designs, whereas I was influenced by collage design, organic forms, and the contrast of black and white photos against color. We collaborated throughout the process to achieve that ideal balance and to harmonize various concepts into one beautiful piece.
My client wanted a 4-page website with the goal of attracting new members and partnership stakeholders. With this in mind, I knew I wanted to add emphasis to their social media channels by incorporating several call-to-action buttons so visitors have more opportunities to get to know Sista Circle and their community. I had the same strategy in mind for targeting potential partners.
